"Kajora" is never pronounced correctly...... haha
The word came from combining our family's middle names. Kay, Jo, Ray.. So that is how we pronounce it... Ka "Kay".. jo "Jo".. ra "Ray"
Kajora Kennels is located in West Virginia and was started in 1979 with our first purchase of two afghan hounds for show. Deciding on which breed we wanted was difficult. Tami had one of only two dog grooming business in the area, so was very familiar with most of the AKC breeds. Maltese were our first choice, but after tons of research, we decided to start with a breed a bit easier coat to take care of. After finally deciding on the Afghan Hound and doing lots of research on the breed and pedigrees we decided on a show breeder and ended up getting two litter mates. With great expectations Tami and 12yr old Kym jumped into the show world planning to win every where we went! Well, we soon found out it doesn't work that way. Although, Kym did do very well with her dog "Laci", getting all her single points! After learning the show game was much harder than we thought, we purchased other dogs. Still line breeding on the original pedigree we started with and adding other fine pedigrees to do very well over the years with several AKC Champions, two Canadian Champions and an International Champion.
Not being able to ignore the beauty of a show poodle we soon started with them also. Which they took a back seat to the Afghans for awhile. But when we decided to concentrate on our poodles, other fine afghan hound kennels continued our Kajora line and have a very high percentage of finished dogs. Infact, an Afghan hound winner at Westminister the two years in a row is a granddog! In 1988 Kym starting working as a handler assistant, and was soon handling different breeds for other people on her own.
Dec. 6, 2005 Tami sadly and very unexpectedly passed away. She had accomplished a great deal in a short time with one of her maltese ranking in the top 20 maltese in 2005. I only hope to be able to carry on with her dream, and dedication.
Although my life has gotten more complicated with having young children I still show as much as I can and are producing what we both considered a dog sound in mind and body. |
